Nagpur: In a major cleanliness initiative, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will launch a Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste Cleaning Campaign across the city from November 6 to 8, aiming to make Nagpur debris-free and reduce dust pollution.
Under the campaign, the Solid Waste Management Department will clear all construction debris and waste dumped along city roads, footpaths, and public squares. The civic body has also appealed to other city development agencies to remove debris accumulated at their respective project sites during this period.
NMC officials said individuals found dumping construction waste on roads or public places will face fines during the campaign. With several infrastructure projects currently underway, the city has seen a sharp rise in C&D waste generation, prompting the civic body to act.
The NMC has directed all 10 assistant commissioners to oversee debris collection in their respective zones and ensure timely disposal. It has also issued notices to agencies including the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Maha Metro, Public Works Department (PWD), MSEDCL, and Indian Railways, urging them to clear debris from their sites.
To execute the drive efficiently, NMC will deploy excavators, tipper trucks, and other heavy machinery, ensuring large-scale clearance of waste and restoration of cleaner city roads.
