New EV fleet marks major step toward cleaner, sustainable Nagpur
NMC adds 20 electric waste collection vehicles to boost green drive
Taking a major step toward making Nagpur a cleaner and greener city, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has added 20 new electric vehicles (EVs) to its solid waste collection fleet, marking a key milestone in its ongoing mission to modernize and decarbonize urban waste management.
The new EVs, operated by AG Enviro Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., were inaugurated on Monday (November 3) by Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari at a brief ceremony held at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Administrative Building, NMC headquarters.
With this induction, NMC’s total fleet for door-to-door waste collection has risen to 263 vehicles. The newly deployed electric units will operate across Laxmi Nagar, Dharampeth, Hanuman Nagar, Dhantoli, and Nehru Nagar zones — all managed by AG Enviro under contract with the civic body.
Senior officials present included Additional Commissioner Smt. Vasumana Pant, Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Bhagat, Chief Sanitation Officer Dr. Gajendra Mahalle, and AG Enviro Chairman Mahendra Ananthula, along with other officers and field staff.
According to NMC officials, the EVs will improve the efficiency of collecting segregated wet and dry waste while cutting carbon emissions and operational costs.
Dr. Chaudhari said the initiative demonstrates NMC’s commitment to clean technology and eco-friendly practices under the Swachh Bharat Mission, adding:
“Every step toward electric mobility is a step toward a sustainable future.”
