The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has stepped up preparations for the upcoming civic elections, with the administration set to conduct the crucial ward reservation lottery on Monday, November 11. To ensure smooth and transparent proceedings, over 50 officers and employees have been appointed for the draw and related election duties.
The civic polls are expected to be held in January’s second week, according to officials. Nagpur has been divided into 38 wards, from which 151 corporators will be elected — four from each of the 37 wards and three from the 38th.
Earlier, the voter list was slated for publication on November 6, but under the revised schedule, the final polling-station-wise list will now be released on December 12. The election process is being supervised by Deputy Municipal Commissioner Milind Meshram, who heads the NMC’s Election Department. The lottery will follow the State Election Commission’s guidelines.
The reservation draw will decide which wards are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Women. The system will rotate reservations in descending order of ward numbers.
The announcement has sparked intense anticipation among political aspirants across parties, as the outcome will determine their electoral constituencies. With 50% of seats reserved for women, two out of four corporator posts in each ward will go to female candidates.
The reservation lottery marks the first key step toward the 2025 NMC elections, setting the stage for full-scale campaigning in the city.
