The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has announced a scholarship of ₹50,000 each for 50 meritorious students from its schools who excelled in the Class 10 examination conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education in March 2025.
According to officials, the amount will be disbursed in two installments to students currently pursuing Classes 11 and 12. The initiative, approved by Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, aims to encourage academic excellence among students from NMC schools and support their higher education.
Under the guidance of Dr. Chaudhary and Additional Commissioner Vaishnavi B., continuous efforts are being made to improve the quality of education, create a more engaging learning environment, and boost enrollment across municipal schools.
NMC operates 28 secondary schools in Marathi, Hindi, Urdu, and English mediums. In the March 2025 board exams, these schools recorded an impressive 90.28% pass rate, with the top scorer achieving 94% marks. During a felicitation event earlier this year, Dr. Chaudhary had announced financial aid for high-performing students — a promise now being fulfilled through the civic body’s Social Development Department.
In addition, to promote girls’ education, NMC offers an annual attendance incentive of ₹4,000 for female students. The civic body has also introduced initiatives such as computer training, education and sports festivals, digital classrooms, computer and science labs, and counseling programs to ensure holistic development.
Flagship projects like Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Adarsh School, PM Shri School, Mission Navchetana, and The Happy School Project, under the Smart City Mission, have helped raise educational standards in municipal schools, putting them on par with private institutions.
