The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has designated specific parts of Ramdaspeth as a Silent Zone, acting on directives issued by the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court. The move aligns with provisions under Section 452A (1-A) and (1-B) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, relevant Government Resolutions, and the High Court’s judgment in Writ Petition No. 4959/2024 dated September 30, 2024.
A notification issued by Municipal Commissioner Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari states that areas within a 100-metre radius of three key establishments in Ramdaspeth have been brought under the Silent Zone category. These include Sheshrao Wankhede Vidyaniketan School (Mor Hindi) Playground, Arneja Heart Hospital, and Bisne Hospital—institutions classified as highly sensitive to noise.
The NMC received the court communication on October 15, 2025, and promptly issued the notification to ensure compliance.
Strict Monitoring, Legal Action for Violations
The High Court had earlier directed the police to closely monitor noise levels during public events, including Dandiya celebrations, and enforce all applicable regulations. It also cautioned that any violation of prescribed conditions would invite strict legal action. To ensure transparency, organisers were instructed to engage an independent monitoring agency to continuously record sound levels throughout the festivities. Police were also asked to conduct periodic inspections.
The declaration of the Silent Zone is aimed at safeguarding schools and hospitals in the locality by enforcing stricter noise-control measures and mitigating exposure to noise pollution.
