In a major move to crack down on long-pending property tax defaulters, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has initiated one of its biggest auctions of seized properties to recover outstanding dues. After multiple reminders and warning notices failed to prompt payments, the civic body has now listed 113 properties across the city for auction, aiming to recover a total of Rs 191 lakh.
According to the Property Tax Department, Zone 10 (Mangalwari Zone) accounts for the highest number of seized properties. A total of 46 properties, located in Mouza Chhaoni, Urban Credit Society, New Subhedar Layout, Chikhli, Zingabai Takli, Gorewada, Indora, Borgaon, Mankapur and Wadpakhad, collectively owe Rs 120.96 lakh. Their auction is scheduled for December 23.
In Zone 1 (Laxmi Nagar), 12 properties are slated for disposal to recover Rs 14.43 lakh. These will be auctioned on December 16 and 18.
The next highest number of cases comes from Zone 4 (Dhantoli), where 24 properties located in Mouza Ajni, Somalwada, Bhamti, Bhamti-Parsodi, Parsodi, Sitabuldi, Lendra Park, and Takli-Sim owe Rs 21.78 lakh. Their auction is scheduled for December 12.
In Zone 7 (Satranjipura), 13 seized properties—including those under Amar Asha Cooperative Housing Society, Narhari Gruhnirman Sahkari Sanstha and Vidarbha Housing—are listed for recovery of Rs 11.02 lakh. These will be auctioned on December 15.
The least number of defaulter properties are in Zone 8 (Lakadganj), where assets in Mouza Hiwri and Pardi account for dues of Rs 10.20 lakh. Their auction is planned for December 12.
Additional auction dates for various zones are scheduled on December 17, 19, 24, and will continue into the next year on January 2, 7, 9 and 16, depending on zone-wise listings.
NMC officials stated that auctioning remains the last resort, used only after all other recovery measures are exhausted
