Schools across Nagpur are facing uncertainty after the Maharashtra government announced a public holiday on Tuesday, December 2, for areas going to municipal council and nagar panchayat elections. Although the notification has appeared in the official gazette, school authorities are hesitant to implement it because the order lacks an official signature.
Several institutions have stated that they cannot confirm a holiday based solely on an unsigned document. This has led to widespread discussion among teaching and non-teaching staff, many of whom are unsure whether the notification can be treated as legally valid.
The gazette clearly outlines that the holiday is applicable to all government and semi-government offices, public sector banks, Central government departments, and institutions falling within the limits of the concerned municipal council or nagar panchayat. It also extends the benefit to employees posted outside their constituencies on official duty who are eligible to vote.
Despite this, schools are reluctant to enforce the declaration. Staff members say that while the government has announced the holiday, school administrations are unwilling to comply without a properly signed directive. This has left many school employees responsible for election duties uncertain about their schedules.
Teachers and support staff have appealed to the government and the district administration to issue a signed and official version of the order. They say a clear directive is essential to prevent further confusion and ensure smooth polling arrangements.
