Bengaluru Police intensified security measures on Sunday after the city’s Commissioner of Police received a bomb threat on his official email, warning of planned explosions at Kempegowda International Airport and several major malls. The email, sent on November 30, claimed to be from the Pakistan-based extremist group Jaish-e-Mohammad, according to ANI.
The threat mail, sent from an address under the name “Mohit Kumar,” identified multiple targets, including Orion Mall, Lulu Mall, Forum South Mall and Mantri Square Mall. It stated:
“This is a warning from the Jaish-e-Mohammed White Collar Terror Team… we targeted Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru… for bomb blast at 7 pm onwards.”
Following the alert, police registered an FIR under Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and began an investigation.
The email comes days after police uncovered a “white-collar terror module” linked to the November 10 Delhi blast involving doctors allegedly funnelling around ₹7.26 lakh to support a plot for coordinated terror attacks across multiple cities. Those identified in the module include Muzammil Ganaie, Adeel Ahmad Rather, Muzaffar Ahmad Rather, Shaheen Shahid and Umar Un-Nabi Mohammad, all associated with Al-Falah University in Faridabad. Investigators say Umar Un-Nabi drove the Hyundai i20 that was detonated with explosives on November 10.
Bengaluru has witnessed similar scares earlier this year, when a series of hoax bomb threat emails were sent to schools in the city and other parts of the country. In June, several city schools reported threats, prompting large-scale evacuations. The North Division Cyber Crime team later traced the emails to Rene Joshilda, a software engineer already lodged in Ahmedabad Central Jail.
Police say they are treating the latest email threat with utmost seriousness as investigations continue.
