A 50-year-old paralysed man was charred to death after a fire broke out in his house near Shitla Mata Mandir under Shantinagar Police limits on Monday. The deceased was identified as Umesh Narayan Paliwal, a resident of Prem Nagar.
As per the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Fire and Emergency Department, the control room received a fire alert at 1:37 pm. A fire tender from Lakadganj Fire Station reached the spot by 1:45 pm and immediately began firefighting operations. Despite their efforts, Paliwal could not be rescued from the burning house.
According to Shantinagar Police Inspector Gajanan Tamte, Paliwal’s family members were away from home at the time of the incident. “His wife and son work to support the family and were both out when the fire started. Due to his paralysis, Umesh was unable to escape, leading to the fatality,” Tamte said.
