An injured tiger spotted in the main Right Bank Canal (RBC) of the Gosikhurd Dam under the Indira Sagar Project in Pauni tehsil was successfully rescued by the Forest Department on Tuesday morning and shifted to the Gorewada Rescue Centre in Nagpur for treatment.
The big cat was first seen between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. near Dhanori village along the Pauni–Sawarla road, where the canal runs parallel. Locals noticed the tiger lying in the canal bed, unable to move, and immediately informed forest authorities.
A rescue team of senior officials, veterinary experts, and frontline staff rushed to the spot and closely monitored the animal’s condition. The area was secured to avoid any human-animal conflict during the operation.
After a detailed assessment, the team tranquilised the injured tiger and lifted it safely from the canal. It was later transported to the Gorewada Rescue Centre in Nagpur for further medical evaluation and treatment.
Officials are yet to determine the cause of the injury. The Forest Department is expected to issue a detailed update after veterinary examination. The incident once again highlights increased tiger movement around the Gosikhurd Dam landscape, where wildlife often strays close to human habitation.
