A major security failure has come to light at Nagpur’s Ram Jhula Cable-Stayed Overbridge, where 22 projectors and 66 LED lights from the newly installed illumination system were stolen — and weunnoticed for weeks.
The theft was reported by Dilip Wanjarn, Assistant Engineer of NMC’s Gandhibagh Zone, at Tehsil Police Station. The high-end lights had been installed on August 14, 2025, with security assigned to Garuda Security Services.
Shockingly, the missing lights were discovered only on November 6, when supervisor Niraj Milind Tembhurnikar noticed the absence and informed officials. A site inspection confirmed the large-scale theft, leading police to file a case against unknown persons.
The incident has sparked serious concerns about the security agency’s reliability and the lack of proper monitoring. Residents are questioning how such heavy equipment could be removed from a busy landmark without being detected.
Police are investigating, but the episode has exposed a worrying gap in the city’s security and administrative oversight.
