Electorate swells by 35,618 to touch 24.83 lakh; southern and eastern prabhags surge while inner-city pockets see sharp deletions
Nagpur’s electoral battlefield has been decisively reshaped ahead of the 2025 Municipal Corporation elections, with the final voter list adding over 35,000 voters, pushing the electorate from 24.47 lakh to 24.83 lakh and triggering sharp, uneven shifts across prabhags. While fast-expanding belts have recorded explosive growth—crossing 13,000 additional voters in one prabhag—older parts of the city have seen sizeable deletions following roll revision. The updated figures, released after claims, objections and verification, are expected to directly influence campaign strategies, booth planning and winning margins in a tightly fought civic contest.
During the draft ward formation stage, Nagpur’s voter count stood at 24,47,494. After corrections, fresh enrolments and inclusion of newly eligible voters, the final list climbed to 24,83,112, marking a net increase of 35,618 voters, officials said.
Several prabhags recorded strong gains. Prabhag 1 (North Nagpur–Kamptee Road belt) rose from 69,790 to 74,112, while Prabhag 2 increased from 69,465 to 72,460. Prabhag 8, spanning eastern and south-eastern growth corridors, jumped from 65,276 to 75,739. Prabhag 11 (central Nagpur) climbed from 71,151 to 75,680. The biggest surge was in Prabhag 29, covering rapidly expanding southern and peripheral areas, which leapt from 68,711 to 81,878, making it the city’s most populous prabhag.
Conversely, Prabhags 3, 9, 14 and 24 recorded notable declines, largely due to deletion of duplicate entries, voter migration and boundary adjustments. Some prabhags remained largely stable, reflecting settled residential populations.
Overall, while Nagpur’s electorate has expanded, the real churn is at the prabhag level, reshaping political equations ahead of the polls.
