Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Itwari Railway Station, one of Nagpur’s oldest and busiest rail junctions, is set for a major transformation under a comprehensive redevelopment and modernisation project worth ₹71.31 crore.
The ambitious plan has been prepared by the South East Central Railway (SECR) to meet the growing passenger traffic in Nagpur and address the city’s future operational needs.
Situated in eastern Nagpur, Itwari station is a key link connecting important commercial centres and residential areas. While the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC) is currently developing infrastructure on the station’s southern side, railway authorities have identified an urgent need for large-scale upgrades within the station premises itself to ease operational pressure and enhance passenger facilities.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Dilip Singh said that narrow platform widths—especially at platforms 4 and 5—have created technical challenges in installing modern amenities such as lifts, escalators and foot overbridges. With passenger numbers rising steadily, the existing infrastructure is no longer adequate to handle the growing load efficiently, making redevelopment essential.
