The year 2025 marked the final phase of administrative rule at the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), completing more than three-and-a-half years without an elected body, with December being the last month before civic elections scheduled next year. Civic functioning through the year remained largely execution-driven, focusing on completing already-approved projects, stabilising systems and closing long-pending works ahead of the transition to an elected council.
Road development emerged as the most visible civic activity. Cement concrete road works under Phase-IV progressed across several zones, though some packages faced delays due to pending utility shifts and clearances. Major arterial corridors such as Kamptee Road and Central Avenue were taken up for phased strengthening, junction improvements and drainage alignment. Several internal roads were completed, while others reached advanced stages, with remaining works scheduled to continue into early 2026.
Underground infrastructure advanced through the ?957-crore AMRUT 2.0 programme. Multiple sewage pipeline stretches, pumping stations and interlinking networks were completed and commissioned. Augmentation of sewage treatment capacity and household connections progressed zone-wise. Water distribution upgrades following commissioning led to improved supply stability in several areas and reduced dependence on tanker water.
Urban redevelopment projects moved from planning to execution. The long-pending Town Hall redevelopment progressed through design and preparatory construction stages, while Dik Dawakhana redevelopment advanced as a multi-storey civic-commercial complex. Cotton Market redevelopment also moved ahead with DPR-based planning and vendor rehabilitation processes.
Public health remained a focus area, with large-scale TB screening using mobile X-ray vans and containment of the H5N1 avian influenza outbreak. Late in the year, repeated fires at the Bhandewadi landfill prompted intensified fire-control measures and the initiation of closure of open on-ground dumping.
As 2025 ends, Nagpur enters an election year with major civic works either completed or firmly underway, marking the close of an execution-driven administrative phase.
