With thousands expected to take to the streets to welcome the New Year, Nagpur Police have rolled out an extensive traffic and security plan for New Year’s Eve. Temporary road closures, route diversions and intensified enforcement will be implemented across the city to ensure public safety, prevent congestion and curb unruly behaviour.
As per the official advisory, vehicular movement will be restricted on several key stretches depending on crowd and traffic conditions. In the Futala Lake area, all vehicles will be barred from roads connecting Telangkhedi Hanuman Mandir, Vayusenanagar and Futala Basti. On West High Court Road, traffic on both sides between Law College Square and Shankarnagar Square may be shut as required.
Authorities have also kept the option open to suspend two-way traffic on major flyovers, including Bardi–Gowari Flyover, Sadar Flyover (Katol Road–Mankapur), LIC to Pili River Sai Mandir Flyover and Mehendibagh Flyover. On-duty traffic police will divert vehicles to alternate routes based on real-time situations. These restrictions will remain effective from 6 pm on December 31 till 6 am on January 1, 2026.
Kamal Chowk–Pachpaoli Traffic Diversion
Traffic moving from Kamal Chowk towards Pachpaoli Police Station will be diverted via Kamal Talkies wall compound, proceeding straight past Sindhu College and then turning right towards Pachpaoli. This diversion will continue from December 31, 2025, to January 30, 2026.
131 Checkpoints Across City
To tighten enforcement, police will establish nakabandis at 131 locations citywide on New Year’s Eve. Drunk driving and traffic violations will be specifically targeted. “No one will be allowed to take the law into their hands in the name of celebrations. Law-abiding citizens will be greeted,” Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal said, urging people to celebrate responsibly and cooperate with the police.
