The death toll in the violent incident following a Christmas party in the city has increased to two, after Gaurav Brijlal Karda (34) succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital on Tuesday, December 30. He was critically injured in the same clash that claimed the life of Pranay Naresh Nannaware (28), marking the second fatality linked to the Christmas party violence.
The incident took place around 4 am on Friday, December 26, near Pride Square on Wardha Road, under the jurisdiction of Sonegaon police station.
According to police, several people had gathered at Dabo Club to celebrate Christmas. After the party ended, a dispute broke out between two groups near an XUV 700 vehicle parked close to Hotel Pride Square. The argument quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
Police said the accused, Mehul Rahate, allegedly attacked Pranay Nannaware, a resident of the Mahal area near Sachin Pohe Wale, and Gaurav Karda, a resident of Devyog Apartment near Chikhli Deepti Signal on Kalamna Road. The victims were reportedly assaulted on the rib area using sharp weapons, an iron rod, and bricks, resulting in serious injuries.
Both injured youths were rushed to Orange City Hospital, where Pranay Nannaware died during treatment. Gaurav Karda, who had been admitted to the ICU in critical condition, succumbed to his injuries after four days of treatment on Tuesday.
Following Karda’s death, police are in the process of adding relevant murder charges in the case. Statements of eyewitnesses are being recorded, and a spot panchnama has been conducted as part of the investigation.
The accused currently in police custody, and further investigation is underway.
