The South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC), in association with Taal Sadhana Group Sanstha, will organise ‘Taal Utsav’ to commemorate renowned Nagpur tabla exponent Prabhakarrao Desai. The programme will be held at the Scientific Auditorium, Laxmi Nagar, at 6 pm on January 11, under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The evening will open with a Kathak dance jugalbandi, featuring Purva Kavathekar-Dixit from Sangli and young Kathak artiste Mallikarjun from Pune.
The second segment of the programme, titled ‘Taal Arpan’, will present a group tabla recital by Ram Panke, Om Kukde, Shaurya Dudhnakar, Mandar Mude and Shreyas Munje.
The concluding performance will be a solo tabla recital by Mumbai-based artiste Yashwant Vaishnav. A recipient of the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, the Balshree Award and the Sangeet Shiromani Samman, Vaishnav is currently training under the guidance of Yogesh Samsi. He has performed at several leading music festivals across India and on international platforms.
The programme will be compered by Shweta Shelgaonkar.
