With board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 approaching, the Nagpur Divisional Board of Education has intensified its preparations by rolling out strict anti-cheating measures aimed at ensuring fair, transparent, and stress-free examinations across the division.
As part of the initiative, CCTV surveillance has been made compulsory at all examination centres under the Nagpur division. Officials believe the comprehensive monitoring system will play a key role in curbing organised malpractice, which has been a persistent concern, particularly in certain rural areas. Examination centres lacking CCTV facilities have been rejected by the Nagpur Divisional Board.
According to officials, some rural schools that function as examination centres have in the past entered into informal arrangements to facilitate mass copying, often evading detection even during surprise inspections by flying squads. The introduction of CCTV monitoring this year is expected to significantly reduce such practices.
To further strengthen vigilance, the State Board of Education has deployed 271 flying squads across Maharashtra. In addition, the Nagpur Board has constituted flying squads and vigilance committees under the supervision of district collectors in all six districts of the division.
An awareness campaign is also being rolled out at the state level under the ‘Copy-Free Campaign’, which will be conducted in schools from January 19 to 26. The programme aims to promote honesty, self-confidence, and a stress-free examination environment among students.
As part of the campaign, schools will organise joint assemblies to introduce anti-cheating measures, administer an oath for cheating-free examinations during school prayers on January 20, and read out the Board’s disciplinary guidelines on January 21. Parents and students will be addressed on January 22, followed by screenings of short films on stress-free examinations on January 23. Awareness rallies will be held within schools on January 24, while information about the campaign will be shared in Gram Sabhas on January 26, along with the administration of an oath to students, parents, teachers, and villagers.
Meanwhile, examination logistics have been finalised. A total of 683 examination centres have been set up for the Class 10 board exams, catering to 1,53,739 students. For Class 12, 514 centres will accommodate 1,60,293 students across the Nagpur division.
Officials said the combined measures are aimed at ensuring credibility in assessments while providing a supportive and secure environment for students appearing for the crucial board examinations.
