Nagpur Division of Central Railway is undertaking extensive infrastructure development works to enhance passenger amenities, operational efficiency and freight capacity across the Division.
Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 15 stations—Ghoradongri, Betul, Amla, Junnardeo, Multai, Katol, Narkher, Pandhurna, Godhani, Sewagram, Dhamangaon, Pulgaon, Hinganghat, Chandrapur and Ballarshah—are being redeveloped at an approximate cost of ₹ 370 crore. A key feature at all Amrit Bharat stations is the provision of 12-metre-wide Foot Over Bridges. Redevelopment works at Junnardeo, Ghoradongri and Pulgaon have been completed, while the remaining stations are targeted for completion by October 2026.
Major redevelopment works are also underway at Nagpur and Ajni Railway Stations. Nagpur Station is being reconstructed at an approximate cost of ₹ 488 crore, with separate arrival and departure buildings on both sides, a central elevated concourse, three new Foot Over Bridges, 28 lifts, 31 escalators and modern passenger amenities, with completion expected by March 2027. Ajni Station is being redeveloped at a cost of ₹ 298 crore, featuring new station buildings, an elevated concourse, three Foot Over Bridges, 21 lifts and 17 escalators, with completion targeted by October 2026.
Significant progress has been achieved in third and fourth line projects, with a total investment of ₹ 4,900 crore, and completion targeted by March 2028. Additional third and fourth line works have also been sanctioned on Nagpur–Itarsi, Sewagram–Ballarshah and Wardha–Badnera sections.
In freight operations, 6 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals have been commissioned, loading 725 rakes and earning ₹ 228.05 crore in the current financial year. Three more GCTs are under construction.
The Wardha–Nanded new line project (284 km) is progressing steadily, with 39 km commissioned. The project is targeted for completion by September 2028, significantly improving regional connectivity and freight movement.
