A 26-year-old resident doctor from the Ophthalmology Department of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) was found dead in a city hotel on Monday morning in an apparent case of suicide, shocking the medical community.
The doctor, who had recently joined a postgraduate course, was identified as Rutwik Sagar Thakur (26), a native of Buldhana. His sudden death has sent shockwaves across the medical fraternity, with colleagues expressing deep sorrow.
The exact reason behind the alleged suicide is yet to be ascertained. Ganeshpeth police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Rutwik had completed his MBBS from Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital in Mumbai.Both his parents are doctors. He had secured admission to the Ophthalmology postgraduate programme at GMCH and joined on January 27 this year. He was working under the unit headed by Dr Dilip Umre and was staying at a hotel near the Ganeshpeth Central Bus Stand at the time of the incident.
