Although it was foregone conclusion the Nagpur Municipal Corporation will have BJP’s mayor with the party winning 102 seats out of a total of 151. One seat each were won by was BJP’s partners in the state, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) and NCP (Ajit Pawar).
BJP candidate, Neeta Thakre won the election for the Mayor’s post by securing 104 votes, against the nearest rival and Congress candidate Snehal Thakre who bagged only 36 votes. Eleven elected candidates refrained from voting.
Similarly, Leela Hathibed from BJP was elected Deputy Mayor securing 104 votes by defeating Congress candidate who bagged 36 votes and 11 others did not vote for any candidate.
The meeting for electing Mayor and Deputy Mayor was held on Friday.
The two will nominate members of the Standing Committee.
