The first special meeting of the newly elected corporators of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will be held on Friday at 11 am at Suresh Bhat Auditorium, where the city’s new mayor and deputy mayor will be elected.
The post of mayor is reserved for a woman. During the meeting, 16 members of the Standing Committee will also be selected. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari has informed all corporators about the meeting, while District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar will act as the presiding officer.
For the mayor’s post, BJP candidate Neeta Thakre and Congress candidate Snehal Thakre have filed their nominations. For the deputy mayor’s post, BJP has nominated Lila Hathibed, while Vivek Nikose is the Congress candidate.
After the meeting begins, the presiding officer will scrutinize the nomination papers, followed by a 15-minute window for withdrawal of nominations. NMC Secretary Dr. Ranjana Lade has requested all newly elected corporators to carry the election department’s notice and a photocopy of their election certificate while attending the meeting.
