South Asia’s largest Handball Pro League is set to kick off with a grand opening on February 10. The league marks India’s first combined professional handball tournament for both men and women and will feature around 200 of the country’s top players selected from across the nation.
All league matches will be played daily from 2.00 pm onwards and will be telecast live on DD Sports, enabling sports enthusiasts to catch the action from the comfort of their homes.
Poised to become a major platform for the sport as well as young athletes, the league boasts a total prize pool of ₹50 lakh, including ₹36 lakh in cash prizes. The ‘Man of the Series’ winners will be awarded a TVS Apache motorcycle in the men’s category and an Orbiter e-scooter in the women’s category.
Adding star appeal to the historic league, Bollywood actor Esha Deol has been appointed brand ambassador and co-owner of the Mumbai team. The inauguration ceremony is expected to be presided over by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, with Esha Deol also in attendance. The closing ceremony will be graced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who will present awards to the winners.
