The city where mornings begin with the aroma of hot poha and spicy tarri, woke up to a culinary tragedy that has left food lovers red-faced with frustration. In an unusual and shocking incident, a chana-poha vendor’s entire four-wheeled handcart vanished from Nandanvan Cement Road—leaving not just a man robbed of his livelihood, but an entire neighborhood robbed of their favorite breakfast and evening snack.
The victim, 30-year-old Rahul Amrit Khare of Nehru Nagar, has been serving steaming hot chana-poha near the Indian Petrol Pump for years. His stall was a daily ritual for office-goers, students, and lovers of “Nagpur’s soul food.” But on February 5, after closing shop around 2 PM, Khare parked his cart at the usual spot and went home—unaware that this would be its last appearance. When he returned on the morning of February 8, expecting to start his day feeding hungry customers, he found nothing but an empty stretch of road staring back at him.
What followed was panic, disbelief, and a frantic search. Khare combed nearby lanes and corners, hoping the cart might have just been moved. But it had simply vanished—like the hopes of several regulars who turned up that morning looking for their beloved poha and found disappointment instead.
Left with no option, the disheartened vendor filed a complaint on February 12.
Responding to his plight, the Sakkardara Police have registered a case under Section 303(2) BNS against an unknown accused. PSI Ashwini Katre has taken charge of the investigation, and efforts are underway to trace the thief using technical surveillance and field intelligence.
For now, the crime is not just a theft—it’s a blow to Nagpur’s breakfast culture. As investigations continue, regular customers wait eagerly, hoping the cart—and their daily chana-poha fix—returns soon.
