A video from a Punjabi wedding has gone viral on social media with claims that the groom’s family showered the bride with ₹8.5 crore in cash, turning the celebration into a lavish “cash party.” However, these claims have been found to be false.
According to the event manager and the DJ present at the function, the total amount of money collected during the celebration was around ₹4 lakh, including some foreign currency. It is unclear how the exaggerated claim of crores began circulating online.
The groom’s brother, Sikander Singh, said the wedding took place on February 14 and confirmed that while guests showered money as part of traditional celebrations, the amount was roughly ₹2 lakh. He added that social media posts greatly inflated the figure, creating a misleading impression.
The wedding, marked by colourful decorations, music and dancing, reflected traditional festive customs, but the viral claims about crores of cash being showered at the event are incorrect.
