A newborn girl’s body was found abandoned in a garbage dump opposite Godavari Apartment in Hilltop Layout on Wednesday, sending shockwaves through the locality and prompting a police investigation.
According to officials, the infant’s body was spotted in a garbage collection area in front of the residential building. Police personnel reached the scene soon after being alerted and initiated preliminary inquiries.
Dr. Vibhuti Panbude, Officer at the UPSC Urban Primary Health Centre, who examined the body, indicated that the baby appeared to have been delivered approximately two hours before being discovered. She expressed suspicion that the child may have been killed shortly after birth. The umbilical cord was still intact and had not been cut, suggesting a recent delivery.
Medical equipment was reportedly found near the spot, intensifying suspicion that the delivery may have occurred nearby before the newborn was abandoned.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Police have registered a case and launched a probe to trace the mother and any others involved. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being reviewed as part of the investigation.
The incident has triggered concern among residents of Hilltop Layout, who have called for stringent action against those responsible.
