The New Kamptee Police Station has registered a case against two men for allegedly stealing ₹1.91 lakh from a scooter’s storage compartment after its owner was injured in a road accident and left unconscious.
According to police, the complainant’s father, Lavkesh Shahu (55), a scrap dealer from Gauri Shankar Nagar, Kalamna, was on his way to his shop in Khaparkheda on January 17, 2026, around 8 am. He was riding his Activa scooter (MH-49-Z-4468) when he met with an accident near the Khushbu Motor Showroom under the New Kamptee Police jurisdiction. Locals immediately rushed him to Lifeline Hospital for treatment, leaving the vehicle at the accident spot.
When the complainant later arrived to collect the scooter, he found the dickey open and ₹1,91,000 in cash missing. CCTV footage from the showroom revealed two individuals stealing the money from the storage compartment.
The suspects were identified as Nikhil Ramkrishna Rangari (35) of Jay Bhim Chowk, Kamptee, and Dinesh Laxman Raut (65) of Kamgar Nagar, Kamptee.
Following a complaint, Sub-Inspector Satish Pawar registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the accused, and further investigation is ongoing.
