The Maharashtra Government has approved the revised alignment of the proposed access-controlled Nagpur–Chandrapur Expressway and sanctioned over ₹2,353 crore for land acquisition.A Government Resolution (GR) to this effect was issued on Friday by the Public Works Department. The 204.799-km-long expressway will be executed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
Administrative approval has been granted for ₹1,493.31 crore towards the principal land acquisition cost and ₹860.63 crore towards estimated interest, taking the total sanctioned amount to ₹2,353.94 crore. The MSRDC has been authorised to immediately initiate the land acquisition process. The alignment was originally approved on December 27, 2023. However, revisions were made following objections from Western Coalfields Limited, the Forest Department and activists over the existing tiger corridor, as well as suggestions by the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics (BISAG-N) after the proposed route was uploaded on the Gati Shakti portal.
The revised alignment received clearance in meetings of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Infrastructure held on October 1, 2025 and December 9, 2025.The Nagpur–Chandrapur access-controlled expressway forms part of the proposed eastern expansion of the Samruddhi corridor, aimed at connecting Nagpur with Gondia, Bhandara, Gadchiroli and Chandrapur districts. The project is expected to enhance connectivity in mineral-rich and tribal regions of eastern Maharashtra, promote industrial development and create employment opportunities.
