Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) has finalized an agency to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for introducing 300 feeder buses in Nagpur, aiming to strengthen last-mile connectivity to metro stations. While the tender specifies August as the submission deadline, Maha Metro’s director (strategic planning) Anilkumar Kokate has asked the selected Pune-based firm to submit the DPR by June to fast-track the project. The letter of intent is expected to be issued next week.Officials said 300 feeder buses are planned for Nagpur and 500 for Pune. The proposed Nagpur fleet is estimated to cost around ₹220 crore, with funds to be sought from the state government. These buses will operate between metro stations and surrounding residential and commercial areas, addressing a major connectivity gap.The move comes as the Nagpur Municipal Corporation has been unable to provide adequate feeder services, impacting metro ridership. Daily footfall currently stands at about 1.2 lakh, significantly below the 2 lakh target. Many residents avoid the metro due to poor last-mile transport options. With ₹8,700 crore already spent on Phase I and ₹6,700 crore underway for Phase II, Maha Metro believes improved feeder connectivity will increase ridership, enhance revenue, and strengthen the project’s financial viability.
