Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Ashish Shelar informed the State Assembly that 90 out of the 120 companies allotted space in the MIHAN (Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur) project area have already begun operations, significantly contributing to employment generation in the region.
Responding to a question raised by Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MLA Krupal Tumane in the Assembly on Wednesday, Shelar stated that the operational companies have collectively provided employment to 1,27,225 people. In addition to the core industries, several developer, logistics, and ancillary companies are also functioning within the MIHAN project area.
Developed Plots for Project-Affected Farmers
Addressing concerns related to compensation for farmers affected by the MIHAN project, the minister said that as per a government order issued in April 2025, around 360 project-affected farmers who applied under the 12.5% developed land scheme have been declared eligible to receive developed plots.
Under the scheme, these beneficiaries will be allotted developed land after paying a development charge of ₹50 per square foot.
Government to Review Deadline for Development Charges
Shelar further noted that many project-affected families had demanded a waiver of the development charges. While the earlier deadline for paying the development fee was March 31, the state government is considering the issue.
He said a meeting will soon be convened to decide whether the deadline for payment of the development charges should be extended.
The MIHAN project, one of India’s largest infrastructure and logistics initiatives, is aimed at transforming Nagpur into a major industrial, cargo, and employment hub, playing a key role in the economic development of the Vidarbha region.
