All the drivers and conductors reporting on duty will have to undergo the Alcohol Testing, before starting the work. The decision has been taken by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) to prevent reporting on duty in an inebriated condition and also to ensure safety of the passengers. The information was given by Maharashtra Transport Minister and Chairman of MSRTC.
During his surprise visit to a bus stand in Mumbai’s Parel suburb, he found liquor bottles in the rest room for drivers and conductors. Some of them in the rest room were under the influence of alcohol. Sarnaik took a serious note of the case, and directed MSRTC authorities to conduct the AlcoTest and maintain its record. He also appointed a committee to enquire about his findings in the restroom. The Committee will also suggest measures to prevent employees working under influence of alcohol.
MSRTC appointed a three-member enquiry committee and fix the responsibility on the employees and officers. The Committee submitted the preliminary report and initiated action against the guilty. The measures suggested by the Committee were implemented with immediate effect.
The drivers and conductors will have to pass the AlcoTest and also the driver will have to maintain the Logbook. The Surveillance Team will be responsible for conducting frequent examinations and ensuring enforcement of the rules.
