Maharashtra remains the fifth state in India in terms of per capita income, according to the latest Economic Survey for 2025-26. As of 2024-25, Maharashtra’s income is reported at ₹3,17,801. This figure is expected to rise to ₹3,47,903 for the current financial year.
Despite this stability, Gujarat continues to lead over Maharashtra. The rankings show Telangana at the top with a per capita income of ₹3,87,623 for 2024-25. Following closely are Karnataka at ₹3,80,906 and Tamil Nadu at ₹3,61,619.
While Maharashtra’s average stands above many states—and significantly higher than the national average of ₹2,19,000—there are stark disparities across its districts. Seven districts including Mumbai City and Suburbs boast a per capita income exceeding ₹3 lakh. In contrast, several regions like Gondia and Beed fall below ₹2 lakh.
The state’s economy benefits from a diverse structure that includes agriculture, industry and services. Mumbai serves as India’s financial hub while other cities such as Pune and Nagpur emerge as key growth centers.
Infrastructure development has accelerated recently with investments pouring into roads and metro systems alongside ports and logistics networks. Reforms have been initiated to enhance ease of doing business and promote digital governance within various sectors.
Maharashtra’s strategic focus on sustainable development continues to attract both domestic and international investors seeking opportunities in this dynamic economy.
