The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has started a toll-free helpline 8830160002 for citizens to report trees whose trunks have been blocked by concrete or construction work.
The move comes after the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court criticised civic authorities for failing to take adequate steps to de-choke trees across the city. Residents can report such trees by calling the helpline, or by uploading photographs and location details on www.nmcnagpur.gov.in or through the My Nagpur App.
According to NMC, ongoing development work has led to concrete being laid around many trees, restricting rainwater from reaching their roots.
