The Senate of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has approved a proposal by senior Senate member Dinesh Sheram to organise a “University Tour” aimed at giving students and citizens an opportunity to explore the university campus.
Sheram stated that RTMNU houses several educational and cultural landmarks, including the Constitution Preamble Park, an international-standard synthetic track, the historic university library, an Archaeological Survey of India museum, the Fine Arts Department’s art gallery, and a statue of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj.
A Tribal Museum is also being developed on the campus.
He suggested that these sites could serve as important learning spaces for school and college students. As RTMNU has completed 100 years, Sheram proposed introducing a paid “University Tour” that would allow students and citizens to visit and study these landmarks.
The idea of taking students to such locations was earlier initiated by Dr Abhay Mudgal when he was Director of Students Welfare. However, the initiative discontinued after his tenure ended.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Manali Kshirsagar welcomed the proposal and expressed willingness to expand the tour beyond the campus to include important sites within the city. Some Senate members also suggested hiring a bus from the civic body to facilitate the tours.
Meanwhile, responding to another query raised by Sheram, the Vice-Chancellor also agreed to work on establishing a Centre for Endangered Languages at the university. She said a proposal for the centre would be prepared and sent to the government for approval.
