Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has reiterated the state government’s “zero-tolerance” policy against drug trafficking, announcing stringent measures including the seizure of assets belonging to those involved in the narcotics trade.
Addressing the State Assembly, Fadnavis said that drug-related offences will be dealt with strictly under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), a law aimed at curbing organised crime. The move will empower authorities to take tougher action against drug syndicates and confiscate properties linked to illegal activities.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the government will not spare anyone involved in the drug trade. He warned that even police personnel found complicit in such cases would face strict disciplinary action, including dismissal from service.
In addition, courier services found facilitating the transportation of narcotics will be treated as co-accused in criminal cases, signalling a broader crackdown on the networks supporting drug distribution.
Fadnavis also highlighted the growing use of social media platforms for drug trade and said the government is closely monitoring such activities. The state has strengthened its anti-narcotics framework through dedicated task forces and increased enforcement efforts.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Chief Minister stated that there will be “no compromise” in tackling the drug menace, especially considering its impact on youth and society.
The announcement comes amid intensified anti-drug operations across Maharashtra, with authorities reporting significant seizures and arrests in recent years.
