Nearly 48% of posts in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) are vacant, affecting civic work. Of 17,981 sanctioned posts, only 9,322 are filled, leaving 8,659 empty, officials said during a review meeting on Monday led by Municipal Commissioner Vipin Itankar.
According to a media report, concerned over the shortage, the commissioner asked officials to start recruitment soon and speed up pending hiring proposals. He also told them to follow up with the state government for about 19 officers needed on deputation.
The meeting of the general administration and legal departments was held at the NMC headquarters and attended by senior officials. Deputy Commissioner Nirbhay Jain said the civic body has 205 cadres from Class I to Class IV. The commissioner also directed officials to send pending proposals to the state and follow up regularly.
