The Ambazari Police Station has taken action against an alleged illegal hookah parlour operating at Nimbus Café in Gokulpeth, booking its operator and seizing materials worth ₹12,000.
The raid was conducted late on March 19, extending past midnight, after police received specific information about unlawful activities at the café. During the operation, Aniket Panchsheel Badge (28), a resident of Jaripatka, was allegedly found serving customers hookah containing prohibited tobacco products without a valid licence.
Police officials stated that the accused was running the hookah facility for financial gain in violation of legal provisions. Items seized from the premises included hookah pots, flavoured tobacco and other related equipment collectively valued at ₹12,000.
An offence has been registered under Section 274 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with Sections 5, 6, 7 and 20 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 (Maharashtra Amendment, 2018). Additionally, action has been initiated under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Police Act for operating the café beyond permissible hours.
Further investigation is underway.
