The International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women’s World Tennis Tour will be held at the MSLTA Tennis Centre in Ramnagar, Nagpur, from March 23 to 29. The tournament is being held under the aegis of the ITF, AITA and MSLTA, and is organised by the NDHTA team. Dr Sudhir Bhiwapurkar is the tournament director, while Vijay Naidu is the tournament secretary and Vikram Naidu the joint secretary.
Nagpur has previously hosted similar ITF events in 2022 and 2024. This year, the ITF has appointed Gold Badge referee Sheetal Iyer as the tournament supervisor, who will oversee the smooth conduct of the event.
The prestigious W15 Nagpur tournament, with a total prize pool of USD 15,000, will be played over eight days. The qualifying rounds will begin on March 22, followed by the main draw from March 24. The finals are scheduled for March 29. Players from several countries, including Kazakhstan, Russia, Denmark, the Netherlands, Uzbekistan, Great Britain, Malaysia, Nepal and Canada, will participate, with the largest contingent coming from India.
Kazakhstan player gets top billing
- Zhibek Kulambayeva of Kazakhstan, ranked 388 in the WTA rankings, is the top seed. Among the top five are two Indian players, Srivalli and Zeel Desai (ranked 520 and 627 respectively), along with two players from Russia.
- The NDHTA team has spent the past month preparing the venue, including relaying the clay courts to ensure quality playing conditions. The winner will receive USD 2,352, while the runner-up will be awarded USD 1,470. Other main draw players will also receive a share of the prize money.
