In view of rising temperatures in the city, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has intensified its efforts to protect citizens from heat-related illnesses. Mayor Nita Thakre has directed all departments to effectively implement preventive measures under the “Nagpur City Heat Action Plan 2026” and ensure coordinated action across departments.
The plan was presented during a review meeting at the NMC headquarters, where officials discussed strategies to safeguard public health during the summer. Key measures include setting up drinking water facilities at public places, installing water ATMs and filters at key locations, providing shaded areas, strengthening healthcare services at urban health centres, and launching awareness campaigns to educate citizens about heatstroke prevention.
Officials also emphasized enhancing preparedness by improving shelter facilities for the homeless, ensuring availability of emergency response systems such as helplines, and expanding access to safe drinking water across the city. The civic body highlighted that Nagpur is among the leading cities in India in implementing heat action plans effectively, and reaffirmed its commitment to minimizing heat-related risks through proactive planning and public outreach initiatives.
