Eleven people were seriously injured after a Bolero pickup vehicle met with an accident near Hotel Pride on Wardha Road on Monday night. The mishap occurred when a lunch tiffin box got lodged beneath the brake pedal, preventing the driver from controlling the vehicle.
According to police, Kiran Nathuji Meshram (49), a resident of Yashodhara Nagar, runs a catering business and had gone to Takalghat with his workers for a Mahaprasad programme. After completing the assignment, the group was returning to Nagpur late at night.
A total of 16 people were travelling in the vehicle, driven by Arjun Ramesh Waghode (25). During the journey, a tiffin box kept near the gear lever slipped and got stuck under the brake pedal near the Hotel Pride traffic signal. When the driver attempted to brake, he found the pedal jammed and steered the vehicle towards the road divider to avoid a major collision.
The impact threw passengers inside the vehicle, injuring 11 people, including five men, five women, and a child. Among the injured were Kiran Meshram and his seven-year-old son, Gopal.
All the injured were rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. Police have registered a case and are investigating further.
