Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) is planning to reward students who topped their respective subjects but do not have sponsored medals or prizes. Dr Chandu Popatkar, a Senate Member, raised this issue in the recently held Senate meeting.
Dr Popatkar pointed out, “In the convocation, several students’ names figure in the list of awardees who stood topper in their respective faculties. But there are students who secure first rank in the Postgraduate Degree examination in subjects for which there is no sponsor available to award medals, they did not get any award, nor were they honoured in the Convocation. They should also be invited to participate in the Convocation ceremony and be duly honoured.”
Another resolution related to the first one, put forward by Dr Popatkar, was passed. According to him, there are subjects for which sponsors are not available for medals, and the University should try to find sponsors independently for such subjects.
As an alternative measure, if sponsors are not available, necessary provisions should be made from the general fund of the University, and the first-ranked students concerned should be honoured by giving medals, suggested Dr Popatkar.
