A 59-year-old loco pilot undergoing treatment at a railway hospital in Nagpur allegedly died by suicide on Friday afternoon, triggering concern within railway authorities.
The deceased has been identified as Sudhakar Chunarakar (59), a resident of Tadali in Chandrapur. According to preliminary information provided by railway officials, Chunarakar was posted at the railway headquarters in Tadali, Chandrapur.
Officials stated that he had sustained injuries after reportedly slipping in a bathroom two to three days ago. Following the incident, he was admitted to the railway hospital in Nagpur for medical treatment. He had been staying in a private room during his hospitalisation.
On Friday morning, Chunarakar’s wife left for their native place after receiving news of the demise of a relative. Between 3 pm and 4 pm, hospital staff conducted a routine check of his room and found him hanging. The matter was immediately reported to senior officials, causing a stir within the railway administration.
Upon receiving information, Divisional Railway Manager Vinayak Garg and other senior officials rushed to the hospital. Police from Sadar Police Station were informed, and Chunarakar’s relatives were also notified.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
