The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will strengthen its healthcare infrastructure by adopting the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model for key municipal hospitals. Mayor Nita Thakre has directed officials to upgrade the Indira Gandhi Hospital at LAD Square and the Pachpaoli Maternity Home to ensure citizens receive advanced and quality healthcare services.
The directions were issued during a review meeting held at Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh Standing Committee Hall. Senior civic officials, including the Additional Commissioner, Medical Health Officer, Project Engineer, and Assistant Health Officer, were present.
During the meeting, a proposal was presented to hand over the third floor of Indira Gandhi Hospital in Gandhinagar to a private operator under the PPP model. Officials informed that the move would not impose any additional financial burden on the civic body. The plan includes setting up a 16-bed ICU facility, significantly enhancing critical care services.
A similar PPP-based strengthening has also been proposed for the Pachpaoli Maternity Home. Officials stated that such collaborations would improve healthcare delivery, particularly benefiting economically weaker and underprivileged sections of society.
The meeting also discussed a proposal to establish six new Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs), one in each Assembly constituency in the city. Additionally, existing UPHCs will be upgraded. The Mayor directed the administration to prepare a comprehensive plan for expanding and strengthening primary healthcare services across Nagpur.
