A case of alleged ragging has surfaced at a prominent law university in Nagpur, where a junior student has filed a complaint against a senior student. Acting on the complaint and in accordance with University Grants Commission (UGC) anti-ragging guidelines, police have registered an FIR in the matter.
According to sources, the incident took place in the university hostel, where both the complainant and the accused reside in the same room. The junior student alleged that she was subjected to repeated harassment by the senior over minor issues. The situation escalated when the senior reportedly forced her to follow certain instructions, including switching off lights at night and restricting her study routine.
The complainant further alleged that the senior exerted pressure by asserting her authority and even physically pushed her during an argument, resulting in a minor injury to her hand. The continuous harassment is said to have caused significant mental distress to the victim.
Following the complaint, the university’s anti-ragging committee convened meetings and recorded statements from both parties. Although the internal inquiry is still underway, the matter was escalated to the police as per UGC norms, which mandate reporting such incidents within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, police officials from Butibori Police Station have refrained from sharing detailed information, citing the sensitive nature of the case and the possibility of further escalation.
