Top seed Vaishnavi Adkar crashed out of the MSLTA-NDHTA ITF 15K Women’s World Tennis Tour being played at NDHTA’s Ramnagar courts on Friday.
In the biggest upset on Day 4, Adkar was stunned by sixth seed Elina Nepliy in the quarter-finals. The Russian clinched the first set 7-5 after a fierce battle. Adkar bounced back strongly to take the second set 6-2, but Nepliy dominated the decider 6-1 to seal her place in the semi-finals.
On Court No. 2, third seed Zeel Desai defeated eighth seed Anastasia Kuparev in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the last four.
In an all-India clash, Sonal Patil beat Kashish Bhatia 6-1, 6-4 to enter the semi-finals.
Second seed Zhibek Kulambayuva got the better of fifth seed Ekaterina Yashina 6-3, 6-4 to complete the semi-final line-up.
In Saturday’s semi-finals, Nepliy will face Patil, while Desai will take on Kulambayuva for a place in Sunday’s final.
In the women’s doubles semi-finals, the second-seeded pair of Nepliy and Ksenia Luskutova defeated Melissa Boyden and Kuparev 6-4, 6-3. In the other semi-final, top seeds Kulambayuva and Yashina beat the fourth-seeded Indian duo of Soha Sadiq and Madhurima Sawant 7-6(4), 6-3.
The doubles final will be played on Saturday.
Sharvan Hardikar, Managing Director of Maha Metro Corporation, will be the guest of honour, while Prashant Sutar will also be present.
