In a significant step towards strengthening international collaboration in fire engineering and emergency response, a high-level delegation from the Siberian Fire and Rescue Academy of Russia visited the National Fire Service College (NFSC), Nagpur from March 23 to 26, 2026.
The academy functions under EMERCOM of Russia and is engaged in fire safety education, professional training, rescue operations, research, and capacity building—similar to NFSC, which operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
The delegation, led by Academy Head Ivan Sergeev, included Andrei Iyarovoy, Tatiana Boiko, and Konstantin Sanin. They were formally welcomed at NFSC and witnessed an impressive parade at the institute’s drill ground.
During the visit, the delegation toured NFSC’s state-of-the-art laboratories, research facilities, and extensive fire and rescue training infrastructure. They appreciated the institute’s modern training methodologies, consultancy capabilities, and practical demonstrations, including live fire operations.
In a meeting with NFSC Director Dr. A. R. Sonatakke, both sides discussed potential areas of collaboration such as joint training programs, research and development, consultancy services, and student-faculty exchange initiatives. The two institutions expressed a positive intent to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the near future.
Earlier, Sergeev attended NFSC’s annual technical festival ‘Agni–2026’ as the Chief Guest. He interacted with students during ‘Ideathon–2026’, praised their innovative projects, and emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in research and knowledge exchange.
Addressing students and faculty, Sergeev lauded NFSC’s high-quality training and world-class infrastructure, stating that its facilities are on par with leading global institutions. He also highlighted the need to deepen collaboration between the two academies to further enhance fire safety and emergency response systems.
