In a significant push to elevate the city’s cleanliness standards, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar on Monday chaired a high-level review meeting at the District Planning Bhavan to assess the “Strategic Roadmap for City Excellence” under the Swachh Survekshan Abhiyan 2025–26.
During the meeting, the Commissioner laid strong emphasis on achieving a Top 10 national ranking in the Swachh Survekshan while simultaneously improving the city’s overall sanitation grading. He directed officials from various departments to implement comprehensive, result-oriented measures focusing on waste management efficiency, cleanliness of public spaces, and citizen participation.
Dr. Itankar stressed that merely maintaining routine cleanliness would not be sufficient, and instead, a data-driven, technology-backed, and accountability-focused approach must be adopted. He instructed departments to ensure strict monitoring of door-to-door waste collection, elimination of garbage black spots, strengthening of waste segregation at source, and enhancement of processing capacities.
Highlighting the importance of public engagement, he also called for intensified awareness campaigns to encourage citizen participation in maintaining cleanliness and promoting sustainable practices.
Officials were further directed to ensure inter-departmental coordination and timely execution of all planned initiatives to achieve measurable outcomes.
The review meeting underlined the administration’s commitment to transforming Nagpur into one of India’s cleanest cities, with a clear focus on performance, transparency, and sustained improvement in urban sanitation standards.
