Nagpur University’s students are in limbo as the end of March approaches. The summer examination schedule still hasn’t been announced, and around 600 winter session results are outstanding. This uncertainty has led to rising anxiety among students, with many fearing an academic crisis.
Despite the university’s repeated reassurances, clarity about the delays remains elusive. Vice-Chancellor Manali Kshirsagar pointed out that legal notices have been issued to both the former private exam agency and the new operator. The reason? Both failed to transfer necessary data and meet commitments.
Kshirsagar explained that the problem stems from a complicated transition in their examination system, exacerbated by ongoing issues with data management and challenges linked to the National Education Policy (NEP). “The timing of this transition created unavoidable complications,” she said. Examinations have already faced delays of nearly a month each, pushing schedules back until late February.
According to Kshirsagar, there are around 800 different result formats at play—none of which were transferred digitally by the previous agency. This forced the new team to re-enter and process vast amounts of data from scratch, complicating matters significantly.
Kshirsagar is actively overseeing operations daily. In a bid to mitigate further disruptions, parallel preparations for summer examinations began recently; examination forms were released on March 23. Students whose results have been declared can fill out forms simultaneously, creating what they hope will be a more efficient database for processing.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that multiple factors contribute to these delays—ranging from old patterns and CBCS systems to unclear guidelines at colleges. She assured students that efforts are underway to clear backlogs soon, with an updated academic calendar expected shortly. “This cycle of delay will end after summer exams,” she asserted. “We’re committed to building a more streamlined system moving forward.”
