A routine school alert about unexplained absences led to the arrest of 28-year-old Karan Keshi, a tile-fitter accused of grooming and sexually assaulting a Class 8 girl online.
Sadar police said Keshi first contacted the 13-year-old on social media in November 2024. Through online grooming—where predators build trust with minors over time—he turned casual chats flirty and manipulative, pressuring her to meet with promises of fun.
The girl skipped school twice in March: once mid-month and again last week. Her parents grew suspicious after the school’s automated message and questioned her. She broke down, revealing she had left home in uniform, changed at school, and met Keshi at a Gittikhadan hotel—where he allegedly raped her both times.
The family rushed to Sadar police station to file a complaint. Officers arrested Keshi on Sunday within hours; he confessed during questioning. Police seized his phone to probe for other victims and booked him under relevant POCSO Act sections. He remains in custody.
