In a significant success for anti-Naxal operations, nine Maoists, including three senior cadres holding the rank of Area Committee Member (ACM), surrendered before Gadchiroli Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The Maharashtra Government had collectively announced a cash reward of ?30 lakh on these cadres.
According to officials, two hardcore Maoists surrendered along with weapons, including one automatic AK-47 rifle and one carbine rifle. The surrender is being seen as a major boost to ongoing efforts to curb Left-Wing Extremism in the region.
Authorities stated that sustained and coordinated operations by Gadchiroli Police and CRPF have led to a steady increase in surrenders. Since 2025, a total of 132 armed Maoist cadres have laid down arms in the district. Acting on intelligence inputs provided by surrendered Maoists, security forces also seized firearms and other materials from neighbouring Chhattisgarh, further weakening Maoist networks in the region.
